About South Lake Tahoe
South Lake Tahoe is the busiest, most amenity-packed base on the lake. It's a walkable strip of restaurants, bars, and casinos that runs right up to the Heavenly gondola and the Nevada state line. If you want options after the lifts close, this is the place: late dinners, live music, blackjack, and a grocery run all within a few blocks. It's also the most affordable pick, with everything from casino towers to budget motels.
Skiing nearby: Heavenly's gondola is walkable from town. Sierra-at-Tahoe is about 20 min away, and Kirkwood, the expert favorite with the deepest snow, is about 45 min out.
