Base elevation is the number that matters
Summit elevation gets the headline, but you spend most of a Tahoe day well below the summit, and the bottom of the mountain is where a warm storm ruins things first. When a system comes in warm the snow line climbs, and the resorts with the lowest bases are the ones dealing with rain, slush, or thin coverage around the lodge while it's still snowing up high.
A high base doesn't guarantee anything. It shifts the odds. In a cold, deep season the difference barely registers. In a marginal one, it's the difference between a good day and a wet one, which is why this is the first column we'd sort on for a late-season or lean-year trip.

Reading the table without over-reading it
Two things are worth noticing. Base and summit don't rank together: a mountain can start high and top out modestly, which gives you a consistent snow surface but a short descent. And the snowfall column doesn't march in step with elevation either, because storm track and aspect matter as much as height does.
If you're booking late in the season or into a lean year, sort your shortlist by base elevation and start from the top. If you're booking midwinter on the back of a big storm cycle, the ranking matters much less and you should be choosing on terrain instead.

Does a higher base mean better snow?
It means better odds, not better snow. A higher base runs colder, which helps a marginal storm fall as snow instead of rain and helps the snowpack survive a warm spell. It does nothing about wind, sun, or a season that simply doesn't storm. Check the resort's own mountain report the morning you go rather than trusting an average.
Do I need to worry about altitude in Tahoe?
Some people notice it and some don't. The base areas here start well above most American cities and the summits are higher again. An easy first morning, extra water, and a quiet first night are the cheap precautions. If you have a heart or lung condition, ask your doctor rather than a ski website.
